What is sassa foster grant
Get a grant to take care of your foster child. A foster child is a child who has been placed in your custody by a court as a result of being:
- orphaned
- abandoned
- at risk
- abused
- neglected.
REQUIREMENTS FOR THE SASSA FOSTER CHILD GRANT
In order to apply for the SASSA Foster Child Grant, it is important that you meet the criteria to apply (note that these criteria are subject to change). The criteria is as follows:
- You must be a South African Citizen, a Permanent Resident or a Refugee
- You must be the foster parent of the child and they must remain in your care
- You and the foster child must both reside in South Africa
- The foster child must have been placed in your custody by a court, due to any of the following reasons: they were orphaned/ abandoned/ at risk/ abused/ neglected
- The foster child must be under 18 years old
DOCUMENTS REQUIRED WHEN APPLYING FOR A FCG
Applicants must take along the following documents when applying for the foster child grant through SASSA (these must be original documents or certified copies):
- The child’s birth certificate (if you do not have this document available, a SASSA official will assist you in filling out a sworn statement or affidavit form)
- Your South African Identity Document (if you do not have this document available, a SASSA official will assist you in filling out a sworn statement or affidavit form)
- Your status permit and refugee ID if you are a refugee
- Your spouses South African Identity Document, if you are married (if you do not have this document available, a SASSA official will assist you in filling out a sworn statement or affidavit form)
- Proof of your spousal relationship – any of the following:
- Marriage certificate: if married
- Divorce order: if divorced
- Spouses death certificate if your spouse is deceased
- Sworn statement or affidavit if any of the above do not apply (eg. if you are living with a partner and unmarried, if you are separated or do not have contact with your spouse)
- Court order proving that you are the foster parent
SASSA Child Foster Grant Amount
As of October 2023, The SASSA child foster grant of R1130 was distributed to the foster parents. In February 2024, the Ministry of Finance declared an increase of R50 for the year 2024/25. Now, R1180 will be paid from 1 April 2024 onward.
