What is an NSFAS Bursary?

An NSFAS bursary is financial support from the South African government for students who need help paying for their education. It covers costs like tuition, books, housing, and other expenses at public universities and Technical and Vocational

Education and Training (TVET) colleges. The goal is to make sure that students from low-income families can go to college or university without worrying about money.

  • South African Citizen: You must be a South African citizen. This bursary is only for students who live and study in South Africa.
  • Studying at a Public Institution: You must be enrolled or planning to enrol at a public university or TVET college. The bursary does not cover private institutions.
  • Receiving a SASSA Grant: If you get any Social Assistance (SASSA) grant, like a grant for older persons, disability, or child support, you automatically qualify for NSFAS. These grants show that you come from a low-income background.
