What is UNISA Special exam

Special exam is the kind of exam which Conducted by Unisa for those students who missed their Exam which may be caused by personal circumstances such as work commitments, serious illness or death of a relative during the examination period.

An aegrotat or special examination may be granted only in terms of Rule 18 in the myRegistration Unisa Information Brochure.

The specific study unit for which an aegrotat examination is requested, must be indicated in the application. Candidates must have obtained examination admission in respect of the relevant study unit.

How to apply for special exams at UNISA

The online application form is only available on myUnisa. Log into myUnisa and navigate to the Examination Timetable tool in the administrative section.

The online application for aegrotat / special examinations must be accompanied by a medical certificate or other documentary evidence giving FULL details as to why the candidate was prevented from writing the examination.

The prescribed examination fee must accompany the application. Applications must be submitted online via myUnisa WITHIN 10 DAYS of the date on which the examination should have been written.

Late or incomplete applications will not be considered. Examination fees are not refundable or transferable.

No alternative dates or times can be arranged in cases where examination dates or times clash.

Where a student qualifies for both an aegrotat or special examination as well as a supplementary examination in terms of General information and Rules G10(4), should the examination dates and / or times clash, the supplementary examination will lapse.

  • Once logged in, go to the administrative section for the examination timetable.
  • View the timetable to look at the courses needed to write
  • Submit your application online and provide all details about your reason for not participating in the initial exams.

Qualifications For Aegrotat and Special Exams At Unisa

Qualifying for the special exams means your medical certificate or report must be within the time range during which your exams were going on. Your reason should be valid enough to qualify you for the special exams.

To qualify for special exams, you must have registered for all the modules within that academic period, and your state of illness, whether before or during the exam period, with proof of a medical report, can qualify you for special exams.

Fees For Aegrotat and Special Exams At Unisa

The cost of special exams at UNISA is currently R300. The R300, which is the cost of the special exams, does not cover the whole academic work but specifically each of the modules that the student could not write within that period due to illness or a health condition. Students who wish to know how much UNISA special exams cost should keep in mind that the cost is per module or course, not for the whole exam to be written.
